UNWAVERING SPIRIT OF MIHIKA

The Girl who never gave up

Mihika, who grew up in a small town of Nagaland surrounded by misty hills and lush green forest has always been a dreamer, often imagining a life beyond the familiar. But her house

fell silent when they had to let their most pampered daughter move to a distant city for her higher studies. Her family, though hesitant, stood by her, packing her bags with hope and love.

This was her chance to explore the city she had only read about in books. Mihika arrived in the bustling city of Kolkata. The noise of honking cars, the aroma of street foods and the sight of iconic yellow taxis welcomed her to a new chapter of her life. It took her while to adapt to the first-paced lifestyle. But the city had its charm. She found solace in majestic beauty of the Howrah Bridge, the serenity of Dakshineswar temple, and the lively chaos of College Street where she would spend hours in browsing Books. Her first year was a whirlwind of learning, making friends and adjusting to city life.

But as the academic year almost going to end, Mihika began experiencing severe abdominal pain and soon it became unbearable. On being diagnosed the doctors confirmed she needed immediate laparoscopy surgery and had to leave for Chennai just before a month of her exams.  The procedure went smoothly but the recovery was daunting. The doctors prescribed her atleast 6months of bed rest but mihika knew her semester exams were waiting for her back in Kolkata.

With determination outweighing her discomfort, Mihika boarded a flight to Kolkata on the eleventh day post-surgery. Every movement was a test of her resilience, but she kept reminding herself why she had come so far. Her friends and professors were supportive, offering encouragement and notes to help her prepare.

When exam day arrived, Mihika, still weak but resolute, walked into the examination hall. Each page she filled was a testament to her grief and perseverance.

Months later, as she stood in the university courtyard with her results in hand—she had passed with flying colours—Mihika realized this journey had taught her more than any textbook ever could. It wasn’t just about achieving academic success; it was about enduring challenges with courage and rising above them.

Her journey from Nagaland to Kolkata, and the detour to Chennai, became a chapter in her life she would always look back on with pride—a story of strength, resilience, and unwavering determination.

With one more year left to complete her course, Mihika knew her journey in Kolkata was far from over. The city had become a second home—one that had tested her limits, nurtured her dreams, and given her a newfound strength. She had faced setbacks, endured pain, but also discovered her resilience.

As she looked ahead to her final year, Mihika promised herself to make the most of it—to learn, to grow, and to cherish every moment. She would take with her not just a degree, but the friendships, lessons, and experiences that had shaped her. The quiet strength she had found within herself would be her greatest souvenir.

She wouldn’t just carry memories of Kolkata—she would carry its spirit. The city had taught her to rise, to persevere, and to dream without fear. And no matter where life takes her next, a part of her would always belong to Kolkata, just as Kolkata would always be a part of her.
